US visa waiver reform violates JCPOA

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – Speaking among reporters, Iranian senior MP slammed US recent plan on visa issuance, and further underlined the US failure in changing the political structure in Syria.

Boroujerdi made the remarks in Interior Ministry, during the registration of parliamentary elections candidates on Monday, saying that the recent plan approved by President Obama and US Congress is based on the pretext of reforming the US Visa Waiver Program to help close security gaps and improve US government's ability to stop dangerous individuals before they reach US shores.

"Following the implementation of JCPOA, the US government conceived the new plan will provide a space for their presence in Iran, however, Iran's Leader did not allow them to have a status in the trade and economic fields in Iran," Boroujerdi said.

Calling it a passive movement by Congress, Boroujerdi added, "Americans should know that the situation today is not like the past; yesterday the chairman of the French Senate with a number of senators visited Tehran and met with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani; they were very interested and eager to have connections with the Islamic Republic in all-out fields."

Boroujerdi in response to a question on whether the plan is consistent with JCPOA, said it can violate Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, since the US was explicitly required and confirmed not to put any limits on the Islamic Republic with respect to trade activities. The plan limits other countries in visa issuance, however, Iran will be virtually affected by its consequences.

The plan would require visitors from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries to obtain a visa to travel to the United States if they had been to Syria, Iraq, Iran or Sudan during the past five years, Whitehouse reorted.

It would also require countries participating in the program to share information with US authorities about suspected terrorists, or risk being suspended from the scheme.

Iran's senior MP, in response to another question about the recent UN resolution on Syria, said, "After 5 years, despite the fact that America used all its capacity to change the political structure in Syria, as the forefront of the fight against the Zionism, however, they have today admitted their failure in the field."

Nowadays, no one in the Middle East buys the discussions over the removal of Bashar al-Assad, except for some countries which are fighting a losing battle.

"Given that President Bashar al-Assad, Russia and Iran actively pursue the fight against Takfiris, the Americans have no choice but to accept Bashar al-Assad, until elections are held in Syria," Iranian Member of Parliament added.
